School Participation
Helping Hand sincerely invites all schools in Hong Kong to participate in our Inter-school Cookie Competition. By selling cookies within the school, students can not only raise funds for elderly individuals in need but also take part in the planning and promotion of the charity sale, experiencing the joy of helping others.
The competition strives to encourage the younger generation to love and respect seniors while also raising money to help with the running costs of our homes and activities for our residents. We offer certificates to participating schools and students.
All participating schools and students will be awarded certificates of appreciation to recognise their contributions and kindness.
Please download the form and submit it via email to frgr@helpinghand.org.hk

Stories of Hope & New Beginnings
Many of our seniors have lived through loneliness, hardship, and declining health. Through our Housing for the Elderly and Care Home services, we walk with them, offering companionship, care, and a place they can finally call home. Below are three real stories of transformation — stories made possible through love, community, and support from people like you.
For privacy and respect, the names in these stories have been changed, but the needs and emotions are real.
Love and Resilience
At 99 years old, Grandma Chan’s life has been full of challenges.
She and her husband had three sons, but sadly, the second and third were hearing and speech impaired. When her husband wanted to give up the two boys because of their disability, Grandma Chan firmly refused and chose to raise all three children on her own. Although her husband left and her eldest son later grew distant, she never gave up on her two younger sons—teaching them practical skills so they could live independently and eventually build families of their own. Today, her children and grandchildren surround her with love and care, bringing her comfort in her later years.
She has lived at our Helping Hand’s Housing for the Elderly for nearly 20 years, choosing to stay for the sense of belongings. Active in the community, she has served as an “Elderly Ambassador,” assisted fellow residents, and joined committees, charity sales and the Golden Age Girl Guide.
Grateful for the kindness she has received, Grandma Chan believes in giving back—helping others and donating when she can. Her story is a testament to a mother’s love, resilience, and the warmth of community life.
Your support helps us continue supporting resilient and caring seniors like Grandma Chan, giving them a later life filled with dignity, warmth, and a true sense of belonging.
Our Oldest Resident – Grandma Hing, 109 Years Old
At 109 years old, Grandma Hing is the oldest resident across Helping Hand’s three Care Homes. She first joined Helping Hand more than 30 years ago, living in our Housing for the Elderly, designed for seniors who could care for themselves. As she grew frailer, she chose to continue her journey with us by moving into our Care Home, where she remains today.
Grandma Hing came to Hong Kong from Dongguan in the 1940s after the war and worked tirelessly to support her family. Today, she is surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, who visit her weekly.
Even at her remarkable age, Grandma Hing continues to enjoy life at Helping Hand—joining activities, playing games, and even becoming the champion of the Boccia for the Elderly Competition at age 100. Her story reflects the continuum of care we provide, ensuring dignity and comfort for every stage of ageing.
Every box of cookies you purchase and every donation you make helps us provide continuous, dignified care for more elderly residents like Grandma Hing.
From Loneliness to Laughter
There are over 43% of seniors live alone before joining our Housing for the Elderly service.
Uncle Lee, now 83, was one of them.
A lifelong sailor, he spent his youth at sea. He never married, had no relatives, and after retirement, he suddenly found himself with no purpose and no companionship. Day after day, he ate alone, stared at the blank walls of his small flat, and watched life pass by outside his window.
When he went to the park, he saw families playing together and seniors laughing over chess games. He envied them quietly — “Why not me?”
After moving into our centre, we encouraged him to join simple activities. One day, he saw a board game. He remembered how, as a child, he could only play with a neighbour’s Chinese Chess set because his own family couldn’t afford one.
This memory lit something inside him.
He joined the game — hesitantly at first, then with growing joy.
Now, he plays every week. He has friends to talk to.
He no longer eats alone. He is no longer invisible.
Your support helps us bring more moments like this to elderly like Uncle Lee.
